![]() ![]() Let’s just say Eddie needs to figure out two very big mysteries as well as, in a sense, get his mojo back. I don’t want to spoil anything, which is hard with a comic like this since it’s all about big reveals. Cates clearly loves this character and proves as much with his plotting and ideas in this series. The suit is cool, he drools green ooze and not much else. For the longest time, I’ve viewed Venom as a simplistic hero that’s more style than substance. You get that here due to new details emerging as far as the Symbiote goes and also with Eddie’s personal life. With Cates’ work, however, you leave a comic feeling as it mattered. Often with superhero comics, you get your standard fight, a twist or two, and plenty of good art, but ultimately not much changes in the grand scheme of things. ![]() Both contain big twists, big reveals, and story elements other writers would drag out over 30 issues, by Cates gets it done in twelve. Donny Cates is a very generous writer and this collection along with the first one prove it. ![]()

He began researching the concept out of fascination for artists and other professionals that became so engrossed in their work that they forgot about all else, sometimes including basic needs. Many of us already think of it as “being in the zone.” It is truly a positive, invigorating experience, as opposed to “hyperfocus” which can be negative. Csíkszentmihályi, a psychologist of Hungarian decent and a professor at Claremont, has also developed a theory of flow from an individual perspective – see his TED Talk.Ĭsíkszentmihályi’s concept of flow is being completely absorbed by what you are doing, energized, and with the creative juices flowing. I remember being introduced to the work of Mihaly Csíkszentmihályi decades ago in a psychology class, and have recently become reacquainted with him while researching motivation and productivity. Well, “just” is a bit of a misnomer as we know how difficult achieving flow can be. The operation just hums along creating value for the customer. Activities are synchronized, layouts are optimized, resources are available exactly where and when they are needed, and the pace is set by true demand. Those of us in the Lean world are accustomed to discussing “flow” – where work is performed in an even manner to reduce mura. ![]() ![]() ![]() When the lawyers of Chancery speak in glowing terms of Jarndyce and Jarndyce, which they are wont to do, as a “monument of Chancery practice,” they speak of its interminable procedures, its unending piles of paperwork.
